League Structure

The Colorado Advanced League is made up of the following divisions: Premier 1, Premier 2, Premier 3, Elite, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Secondary divisions.

Click the option below to read more on the structure and team placement procedure for each division.

  • Within these Divisions, the 11U and 12U age groups play nine games in the 9v9 format. The 13U and 14U age groups play nine games in the 11v11 format. The 15U, 16U, 17U, 18U and 19U age groups play nine games in the 11v11 format. The 18U and 19U age groups compete in a combined age group, playing nine games in the 11v11 format. (Please note: The 16U-17U and 18U-19U age groups might be combined if not enough quality teams register).

Placement is application-based and finalized by the CSA’s Advanced League Operations Committee. For the 11U-14 birth year divisions, this is a year-long league for most teams (Both Fall and Spring Seasons); with automatic mid-season promotion and relegation as follows:

    • Bottom 3 P1 teams change places with top 3 P2 teams

    • Bottom 3 P2 teams change places with top 3 P3 teams

U11 girls and boys teams are placed accordingly per empirical data collected from most recently completed Spring season using standings for U11, U12, and U13 age groups by club.

  • Within the Elite Division, the 11U through 17U age groups play eight games, with 11U-12U playing the 9v9 format, with all other age groups playing the 11v11 format. The 18U and 19U are combined age groups, and play eight games in the 11v11 format. Team numbers in each division depends on the number of team registrations. All team placement is based on each club’s recommendation.

If Group A/B divisions need to be created for the Spring Elite division, teams will be placed by the following criteria:

    • Top half finishers in Elite from the previous Fall season standings in Group A and Group B will be placed in Group A.

    • Bottom half finishers in Elite from the previous Fall season standings in Group A and Group B will be placed in Group B.

    • New teams registered in Elite for the Spring season will be placed in Group B

      • How this will affect future Fall season team placement consideration:

        • LOC will consider the top finisher of Elite Group A from previous Spring season for promotion, as this division is now considered to be “weighted” with the top teams in Elite. The top finisher of Elite Group B from previous Spring season may still apply for Premier 3 placement consideration, placement will depend on team application numbers and team qualifications.

  • Within these Divisions, the 11U through 17U age groups play eight games, with 11U-12U playing the 9v9 format, and all other age groups playing the 11v11 format. The 18U and 19U are combined age groups, and play eight games in the 11v11 format. Team numbers in each division depends on the number of team registrations. All team placement is based on each club’s recommendation.

  • The Secondary Division is an Advanced League level of competition created for 8th graders who were affected by the US Soccer Birth-Year Mandate. This division is a player-pass division. To learn more about the age groups who are able to play in this division, please review the CSA Rules and Procedures section.

There are two groups: Group A and Group B. The Secondary Season for boys is in the Fall, and the girls season is in the Spring.

    • Group A: This is recommended for the competitive player who most likely competed in the Colorado Advanced Divisions of P1, P2, P3. Within Group A, depending on team registration participation numbers, three divisions are offered: Gold, Silver and Bronze.

    • Group B: This is recommended for the competitive player who most likely competed in the Elite, Platinum, Gold, Silver Divisions. Within Group B, depending on team registration participation numbers, three divisions are offered: Gold, Silver and Bronze.
