coaching education overview
As a member of US Soccer, CSA offers a variety of courses within the Grassroots Pathway of the Coaching License Pathway. Through United Soccer Coaches, CSA also offers the a variety of diplomas, each focused on a different aspect of the game.
Earning a certification through US Soccer at any level of the Coaching License Pathway means a coach becomes part of the larger soccer world. Your registration with CSA and US Soccer, ultimately, links you with FIFA, the world governing body of soccer.
Below is a description of each tier of the pathway, as well as links to access more information.
introduction to grassroots coaching
The Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module is an online course and is free to all users through the US Soccer Learning Center.
In order to enter the pathway and take further courses and licenses, this free module is required.

grassroots modules
The Grassroots Modules come after the Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module.
There are four different courses available, each focusing on a different playing size: 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11. This course can be taken online (two hours) or the preferred in-person (IP) through a classroom and field session (two hours).

US soccer coaching licenses
The D License and C License are the final tiers within the Grassroots portion of the US Soccer Coaching License Pathway.
The focus of the National D License is to facilitate the improvement of the candidates in the six tasks of a coach across all four of the Grassroots Modules, with a particular emphasis on coaching training sessions.
The National C License is the final tier within the Grassroots portion of the US Soccer Coaching License Pathway. It builds upon the D License is offered on an annual basis during the summer months.
The higher-level licenses (B, A-Youth, A-Senior, and Pro) are offered and administered by US Soccer.

United Soccer Coaches (USC) is the world’s largest soccer coaches’ organization and has been serving members since 1941.
USC offers a variety of courses, ranging from the Coaching Development Courses to Advanced Diplomas, which covers nearly every aspect of the soccer coaching landscape.
Membership with the United Soccer Coaches offers benefits of in-person courses, online courses, with interaction with staff coaches to oversee progress.
