Q&A WITH MALLORY MOONEY: ONE OF COLORADO’S SOCCER RISING STARS

As July comes to an end, college players are preparing for their upcoming Fall season despite the uncertainty surrounding sports during this time. Some of those players will be entering their freshman year with a high pedigree and recognition, as is the case with Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club’s Mallory Mooney. We caught up with Mooney in this Q&A to get to know more about one of Colorado’s soccer rising stars.

I have been coaching for over 40 years and I still at times feel like a beginner. The game of soccer is a simple game, but forever changing. LINDSEY HORAN IS NAMED TO NWSL CHALLENGE CUP BEST XI

Following an impressive performance at the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, Lindsey Horan was named to the tournament’s Best XI. Horan led the Portland Thorns to a semifinal appearance, where they fell to tournament Champions Houston Dash. Throughout the course of the tournament, Horan made 4 appearances, starting in all of them. She scored a beautiful diving header against Washington Spirit and played a total of 299 minutes.

BROOMFIELD BLAST SC 05G PRESTIGE ARE NAMED 2019-2020 USYS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to the Broomfield Blast 05G Prestige team for winning the 2019-2020 US Youth Soccer National League. Due to the on-going pandemic, their season was cut short. Despite only playing four games, they finished undefeated with 4 wins, 12 points, while scoring 9 goals and conceding 4.

COLORADO SELECT TRAVELS TO DURANGO FOR ID CLINIC

Colorado Select traveled to Durango, Colorado for an ID clinic on July 10-11. Over 60 kids improved their technical, tactical and communication skills, while getting plenty of touches on the ball. The clinic was ran with safety guidelines & protocols by Colorado Select coaches. We want to give a special Thank You to Rio Rapids Durango Soccer Club for facilitating the clinic while Colorado Select was there.

TWO COLORADO PROSPECTS SIGN WITH THE SWITCHBACKS

Darren Yapi and Vlad Walent have signed with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on USL Academy contracts. Yapi grew up playing for Colorado Storm and then made the jump to Colorado Rapids system. As for Walent, a Lafayette, Colorado native, he began playing recreational soccer for Broomfield Blast - Thunder in 2012. In 2013, he moved to Trebol SC (now FC Boulder) and played competitive soccer from 2013-2016 before making the move over to Colorado Rapids.
