ARVADA, CO (May 10, 2019) –Group stage games came to an end on April 27th, where the four semifinalists were determined in FC Boulder, GAM United FC, Indios Denver FC and Logroñes Denver SC.
Colorado Rush vs Seleccion NCFL
Coming into this game, both teams had no possibilities of moving on to the next round. Colorado Rush got on the scoreboard early when Andrew White opened up his account in the 16thminute. In the 45thminute, right before halftime, Seleccion NCFL’s Jonathan Izaguirre would even out the score. Just seconds after resuming play, Andrew White would once again put Colorado Rush in front. At last, it would be Seleccion NCFL ending their 2019 State Cup participation with a victory over Colorado Rush as Jonathan Izaguirre (2) and Sadam Mohamud (1) scored for the northern Colorado side.
SL Apatzingan vs GAM United FC
Four different players scored for GAM United FC in their final group stage game, where it was a much closer contest than expected versus a winless SL Apatzingan side. Solomon Appiah opened up the scoreboard at the 25thminute, while Zion Lander extended the lead for the “Mighty Lions” right before halftime at the 38thminute mark. Anthony Rosales, SL Apatzingan’s goal scorer, put the game within reach five minutes after half-time. Nine minutes later, Ibraheem Latona increased the lead, but Ricardo Verduzco would again, close the gap for SL Apatzingan. Emad Mohammed would put the nail in the coffin at the 74thminute for GAM United FC scoring a beautiful goal. The final score was 4-3 with Alejandro Gutierrez scoring the third and final goal for SL Apatzingan.
Indios Denver FC vs FC Boulder
Both teams had secured a semi-final spot coming into this game, it was a matter of who would finish where in the standings. Indios Denver FC were the ones forced to chase the game and look for the go-ahead goal.
Guadalajara SC vs Logroñes Denver SC
It was a must-win scenario for Logroñes Denver SC coming into this game. Sitting in third after beating SL Apatzingan and losing to GAM United FC, their third and final opponent was Guadalajara SC who happened to be in second place. Logroñes Denver SC got on the board early on. In the second minute, forward Jose Montalvo managed beat his defender inside the box to score on a precise through ball from the midfield. After settling down, Guadalajara SC dominated possession for the remainder of the first-half creating multiple goal-scoring opportunities, including the equalizer courtesy of Daniel Jimenez at the 10-minute mark. The second-half was a completely different story. Logroñes Denver SC came out pressing and pushed numbers forward looking for the win. On the other side, Guadalajara SC went away from their possession-oriented style of play and began to lose control of the match. With the tie, Guadalajara SC was through to the semi-finals because of goal-differential. It wasn’t until stoppage time where a foul was committed on the right flank, just outside of the Guadalajara SC box, leaving Logroñes Denver SC one more shot at goal. The hero of the night was midfielder Jostin Ramos who whipped a ball across the six-yard box, leaving goalkeeper Miguel Rosales static with all the bodies coming diagonally for the header. The ball was never touched; sneaking into the bottom left corner of the goal exhausting all aspirations for the 2014 USASA National Amateur Cup Runners-up.
GAM United FC vs Indios Denver FC
One more time! GAM United FC will face Indios Denver FC one more time in the Adult State Cup semi-final stage. Last year it was a close match between both, where a lone goal was the difference maker to send the “Mighty Lions” onto the Final. GAM United FC comes into this game undefeated, scoring 12 goals while conceding 6. Half of those goals conceded were in their final group stage game to SL Apatzingan. Their most dangerous player going forward is midfielder/striker Enoch Mushagalusa who has 4 goals in the tournament, followed by Zion Lander and Ibraheem Latona who each count with 2 goals. Their opponent, Indios Denver FC, have scored 7 goals and conceded 3 in three games, with no player scoring more than once. Indios Denver FC will look to avenge their elimination against the same opponent who eliminated them last year, while GAM United FC hopes to reach the Adult State Cup Final in back-to-back occasions.
FC Boulder vs Logroñes Denver SC
Two teams that have gone on to know each other well from former UPSL competition are FC Boulder and Logroñes Denver SC. Additionally, both teams have won UPSL – Colorado Conference titles at one point, but this will be their biggest accomplishment yet as they continue to make a name for themselves in the Colorado amateur soccer scene. FC Boulder ran through their group stage opposition and account with the top goal-scorer of the competition in former Colorado Mesa University standout Malik Mennana, who has 7 goals to his name. In addition, FC Boulder also count with the best defensive record thus far, allowing only 2 goals versus Colorado Rush. Logroñes Denver SC will be no easy opponent, however. This side is defensively anchored by longtime team-captain Dante Rafaela and accounts with dangerous players from the midfield up. Jostin Ramos in the midfield is a player to keep an eye on. The attacking midfielder has 3 goals in the tournament, including the decisive game-winner versus Guadalajara SC. Right behind him is Jose Montalvo, who has 2 goals and has proven to get behind opposition using his speed. FC Boulder without a doubt is the favorite to advance based on their performances thus far.
