ARVADA, CO (April 23, 2019) –The scenarios heading into the third and final group stage games are set. In Group A, Colorado Rush and Seleccion NCFL have zero possibilities of moving on after each picking up second consecutive losses on Saturday afternoon at Long Lake Regional Park. In Group B, Guadalajara SC and Logroñes Denver SC will battle for a spot in the semi-finals.
Colorado Rush vs FC Boulder
Coming into Game 2, Colorado Rush had to win or at least tie to keep their chances alive. The side managed by Joe Webb went up early in the 15thminute courtesy of Eduardo Reza. Eight minutes later FC Boulder’s Jack Mayfield would equalize the scoreboard, but striker Malik Mennana would give them the lead at the 26th minute mark. Colorado Rush’s Eddie Dominguez would again even out the score at 2 right before half-time. The second half remained even as both teams fought for possession in the midfield. It wasn’t until the 70thminute that Dan Bricker from FC Boulder broke through with the go-ahead goal. Colorado Rush was forced to push numbers forward searching for the equalizer and that proved costly as Malik Mennana and Michael Jordahl added the fourth and fifth goals for a final 5-2 result. With the win, FC Boulder picked up six points sitting first of Group A and secured a spot in the semi-finals.
Seleccion NCFL vs Indios Denver FC
In the other Group A fixture, Seleccion NCFL gave Indios Denver FC a run for their money, in the first half. Jose Flores Martinez from Seleccion NCFL scored in the 16thminute surprising many, including Indios’ players and staff. The lead lasted only seven minutes into the second half as Jorge Cruz tied the game. After that, Seleccion NCFL was unable to respond and ended up conceiting five other goals with Alejandro Alaniz, Antonio Arroyo, Alexis Escobar, Felipe Barrios and Mario Hidalgo all getting on the scoreboard. Seleccion NCFL mathematically are eliminated, while Indios Denver FC secured a spot in the semi-finals.
Logroñes Denver SC vs GAM United FC
In Group B, Logroñes Denver SC and GAM United FC met once again. The two teams have built somewhat of a rivalry in recent years because of their past league encounters in the final stages, and on Saturday it was no different. Both teams were coming in with three points after winning their opening matches and were on the brink of solidifying their spot in the semi-finals. GAM United FC would strike twice in the first-half within two minutes at the 22ndand 24thminute mark with Enoch Mushagalusa getting on the scoreboard. Ten minutes into the second half, Logroñes defender Dante Rafaela would score an own goal in a play caused by once again, Enoch Mushagalusa. Steven Robellada would answer with a goal of his own at the 76thminute, but it was a little too late for Logroñes Denver SC to come back on young and dynamic GAM United FC side. With the 3-1 score line, the self-proclaimed “Mighty Lions” grabbed another 3 points and are through to the semi-finals regardless of how their third and final group stage game goes.
Guadalajara SC vs SL Apatzingan
SL Apatzingan failed to field 11 players on the pitch for their second game. Regardless of the circumstances, Guadalajara SC took care of business and scored 10 goals, knowing that goal differential could have an impact on the final group stage standings. With the win, Guadalajara SC now sit in second place of Group B with three points and one game to go, the same as Logroñes Denver SC.
Scenarios: Group A
FC Boulder and Indios Denver FC will play in the final group stage game to determine who qualifies onto the semi-finals as first or second. Both account with 6 points, but it’s FC Boulder who sits in first because of their 11 goal differential. For FC Boulder, a win or a tie will keep them at the top of the group. For Indios Denver FC, a win over FC Boulder will place them in first and a loss or a draw will keep them in second place. As mentioned, both teams are in semi-finals. In the other group stage game, Colorado Rush and Seleccion NCFL will play for pride and nothing more. Both teams have no possibilities of moving on.
Scenarios: Group B
GAM United FC should have no problem getting past SL Apatzingan. Even if the “Mighty Lions” lose on Saturday, and either Guadalajara SC or Logroñes Denver SC win, they will remain in first place because of the head-to-head tiebreaker against those two teams, previously beating them directly. That game, specifically, will be the game where all eyes will be on: Guadalajara SC versus Logroñes Denver SC. Both teams will battle for the final spot in the semi-finals, where the winner will play either FC Boulder or Indios Denver FC in the semi-finals. As of now, Guadalajara SC would move on with a tie or a win. For Logroñes Denver SC, a win is the only option they have if they wish to make the semi-finals.
